Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm occurs when the wall of the aorta – the major artery supplying blood to our body- balloons out forming an aneurysm.

 

This condition is painless and symptom free but is life threatening.

The Northern Ireland Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) Screening Programme was introduced in Northern Ireland in June 2012.

 

They are providing free scans for men over the age of 65 who have never attended for scan.

 

Men are 6 times more likely to suffer this condition than women.

 

Approximately 100 people die from AAA in Northern Ireland perhaps unaware they suffered from this condition.
